MOL as Effective Microorganism in Agriculture

MOL as Effective Microorganism in Agriculture

I came across a Facebook thread on an agriculture group and I thought I shouldn’t skip it. It was about effective microorganisms in agriculture. It’s known as MOL (Local Microorganisms). What a great idea I think to use rice waste in agriculture, to make the soil fertile. As I know, in my country, people use rice waste for animal feed or dry it for nice crispy. My favorite crispy.

I have a little passion in agriculture though, but I have never had time for it. However, it's very interesting to learn and share, to talk about agriculture.

MOL has three main components, those are carbohydrates, glucose, and a source of microorganisms. In the country like Indonesia, it’s so easy to find carbohydrates, we can obtain from cassava, wheat, rice water, grass, etc.  Rice is the staple food of Indonesian people. Almost everyday we can find the waste of rice.

The way to make MOL from rice waste (rice waste fermentation) is very simple. You just need a sink, water, rice waste and sugar. Put a bowl of rice inside the water. Store it in nice room with good temperature for several days until you see orange fungi. Once you see the fungi, add some water-sugar-mixed into it and stir it. You can also add some coconut water. After a week there would be aroma of fermentation. Now you can use to fertile your land. However, if you want to use it for large farm land, a sink is not enough.

Besides rice waste, you can use rotten vegetable, conch in rice field, rotten fruit, etc. You can choose one you can easily find in your regions.
